Pentax SMC Takumar F1.4 50mm lens M42 mount

Product Description

This Pentax Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4 8 element lens was designed by Pentax to be a Carl Zeiss Planar-killer, and it is rumored that Pentax lost money on every copy of this rare 1960's lens. Once the achieving crown over Zeiss Planar lenses had been awarded to Pentax by the press, the simplified 7 element version quietly replaced it before the 8 element variety crippled Asahi Pentax's financial profits.

So here you have this incredible and rare 8 element manual focus lens, available once again, to be used on most (see Important Note below) Canon EOS DSLR cameras that accept EF mount lenses. Digital Rebel XS, XSi, XT, XTi, T1i, T2i, T3, T3i, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 60D.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There is an issue using lenses with adapters on the Canon 5D MK II - you can't focus to infinity because the lens runs into the mirror. We suspect this may be the case with all full-frame Canon DSLRs like the 1Ds, 1Ds Mark II & III and 5D as well.

With the lens comes a Canon AF Confirm (auto-focus confirmation) adapter that allows attachment of this lens to your Canon EOS digital camera. It will be manual focus, but you'll get proper focus confirmation with the camera - the red light with the beep when focus is achieved.

We have included images above with the product photo that were taken with this lens mounted on a Canon 20D camera. Hopefully these images will give you some idea of the potential image quality achievable with this lens.

Some of the benefits of this lens:

- High Quality All Metal Manufacturing Build
- Fast f/1.4 Maximum Aperture
- Edge-to-edge Razor Sharpness
- No Vignetting (even at f/1.4)
- Auto-focus Confirmation With Provided Adapter
- Beautiful Bokeh Rendition (out of focus highlights) - See Example Images Above
